Scavenger Hunt...August 26, 2012

Every Sunday when I read the prompts for the upcoming week I have one of two reactions:
(1) I'll never find these things
(2) I don't think I'll do Scavenger Hunt this week self confidence is lacking...especially when it comes to photography.  But YOUR photos are always creative and beautiful! Then I find myself motivated and look out all week for photo opportunites that I can somehow make fit the prompts.  Its such a feeling of accomplishment when I have all five...even when they are a stretch!

School - I work in a high school. This is what I see every day. I like taking photos to escape the chaos of work - especially this time of year! So I had a "take your camera to work" day.

Rule of Thirds - This one - and the next two - were taken while waiting for my daughter's train to arrive.  There are sculptures all around the train station.

Side Profile - the train station.  I drive to this train station quite often, yet every single time, this sculpture catches me off-guard.  I ALWAYS think these are real people and they scare me!

Small - This sculpture isn't small, but it makes everything around it look small.  It's modeled after the painting American Gothic by Grant Wood....that one with the farmer holding the pitchfork.  I photographed it from different angles but found the back they're watching over everything. This is what that previous couple is pointing at.

Motion - Scullers on the Schuylkill River.

Scavenger Hunt...August 19, 2012

Another week of Scavenger Hunt! There are times where, if it weren't for this hunt, I don't think I'd find time to get my camera out.  I'm always happy when I do this though! I only wish I could find more time.

Forest - I am nowhere near any forests, but my daughter DID bring her Forester home before she took off on her latest travels.

Morning Light - The only light I normally see in the morning is that of the alarm clock, and then the sun through my windshield as I drive to work.  This morning, after a night of rain, I took my camera out in the yard to take this photo.

Coffee or Tea - Coffee....definitely coffee.  And not just any coffee....Starbucks from the Keurig.

Newspaper - So many choices at the local train station....

Touch - I just want to touch, smell, and then eat these. I think one of the worst things about summer coming to an end is the end of fresh fruit.

There you go! Off to look at your photos....Have a great week    ~Karen

Scavenger Hunt....August 12, 2012

Interesting prompts this week.  I decided to do something different and roll them all up into one.  So, I used my Mobile phone to create a Collage of photos of my Home.  On the top left, is my photo of Always Look on the Bright second daughter's stuffed animals who miss her almost as much as her father and I do.  The bright side is that she will be home soon! (note - despite the stuffed animals, she is 22 but will always be our baby)  Bottom left is from my first daughter's empty room.  She moved to New York and Hanging by a Thread (or wire) is the reason why.  While I think she was born to make me laugh, she was absolutely born to sing....or act.  You've gotta go for your dreams!  Obviously, the center photo is of our home, and the pictures on the right are from our yard.  The top is of a crape myrtle my mom and dad bought for us after a family vacation to North Carolina...I think of them every time I look at it. And the bottom right is a little spot in the shade where I like to read.

Scavenger Hunt ~ August 5, 2012

Between work, the heat, afternoon thunderstorms....and The was tough getting out to shoot this week. But I did! And I'm watching The Olympics - again - as I edit and post. Thank goodness they only last 17 days because I don't get much done!

Going Back in Time ~ See those flowered drinking glasses in the window of a local vintage shop? They take my right back to my childhood.  Those were our everyday glasses growing up...they came from the grocery store and were filled with sour cream!  Why don't they package items like that anymore?! Did anyone else have those, or am I dating myself?

Something Just for Me ~ There is nothing like the vibrant hues of zinnias to brighten my day. This is SOOC.

Best Part of My Day ~ This could have been used for Going Back in Time, but it really was the highlight of my day.  I was at a Farmer's Market and of course my first stop was the baked goods.  Sitting there, calling my name, was a tray of Elephant Ears.  I LOVE Elephant Ears, and I remember them from my childhood as being as big as my face.  I only ever see Pigs Ears...which are, obviously, smaller.  Well these Elephant Ears are the size of my now adult-sized face, and although I had to take a short break, I ate the whole thing myself!

Night & Day ~ That beautiful time of the night/day, when the sun is setting, the moon is out, and the sky is painted with color.

Look Up ~ I just love this old-time theater.

Have a great week. Off to check out your photos...and watch some more of The Olympics!    ~Karen
