Song-ography & Scavenger Hunt ~ October 27, 2013

It's been awhile since (a) I've spent any amount of time with my camera, and (b) I've linked up to Scavenger Hunt.  I'm a little kind :)

I'm experiencing many moods...sentimental since my oldest got married last week, proud of my loving family, happy that all went well. Rod Stewart's Forever Young has always been a favorite  as it says everything I wish for my beautiful daughters.  Imagine the lump in my throat when the bride presented me with this amazing bracelet.  Thank goodness I am not a crier!
"Be courageous and be brave, and in my heart you'll always stay Forever Young"
OK....I'm crying.
Check out more Forever Young photos over at You'll Shoot Your Eye Out.  I'm discovering that my sister, whose blog it is, and I share more than genes.  Apparently we have the exact same taste in music.  Who knew?!?!
Clouds casting dark shadows over the changing leaves.  So much beauty in Pennsylvania!

Winery OPEN!  Yes, please :)

Have a great week!  Off to check out your photos ~Karen

Manicure Anyone??

Pre-Wedding Bridal Party manicures.  What a relaxing way to start a CRAZY weekend.

Post-wedding, I am in need of a manicure, pedicure, massage, and a good house-cleaning.  Any offers??

Pumpkin Time!

Running, running, running....that's all I've been doing.  As in "running around" - in a car.  I stopped an a local farm stand and was greeted by this stack of awesome little pumpkins with curly stems.  They made me stop, take a look around at the beautiful Autumn day, and made me slow down to appreciate the beautiful day.

Song-ography ~ September 22, 2013

Haven't been spending much time with my camera lately.  However, Saturday afternoon I had it out to capture the craziness of the departure of my daughter's Bachelorette Party.  Suffice it to say....I think they're going to have a LOT of fun and the bus driver is going to experience something he has never experienced before.  That's what happens when you throw together a group of girls...and a few guys from her college singing group.  Since they were heading to a Phillies game, there was lots of red.....but no PINK.

I thought I was going the easy route with this, but it isn't easy to find crayons in my house anymore!  It was fun to play around with the editing.  I haven't done that in awhile.

Looking forward to seeing your photos over at Song-ography at Kathy's You'll Shoot Your Eye Out!

September 1, 2013 ~ Song-ography

Bare Naked Ladies - If I Had a Million Dollars
"If I had a million dollars
I'd build a tree-fort in our yard.
If I had a million dollars you could help
It wouldn't be that hard.
If I had a million dollars
Maybe we could put a little tiny fridge.
In there somewhere
We could just go up there and hang out."
I have simple tastes and am very low maintenance.  If I had a million dollars, I'd be happy in a tree long as I had my family with me.  My tree fort would have to have a swing though.
And Wi-Fi :)

Song-ography August 25, 2013

And this week for Song-ography we are inspired by Old Blue Eyes and that beautiful
Summer Wind.  What an absolutely gorgeous, breezy summer day...PERFECT day for a Bridal Shower.  Even more perfect that it was for my daughter.

Both Sides Now

August 12, 2013 ~ Song-ography

Both Sides Now
"I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's cloud's illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all"

SONG-OGRAPHY for today ~

"Lean on Me"
Ocean City, New Jersey
Life's been so crazy these days; but, my daughter and I took a quick escape to the Jersey Beach this week and enjoyed "walking the boards" to relax.  We were glad to see bikes awaiting their riders.  It's dangerous walking the Boardwalk while dodging bikers, runners, surreys, and seagulls!
Enjoy your week! ~ Karen

Double link up today!  First ~ shout out to my sister and her inaugural Song-ography link at You'll Shoot Your Eye Out.  What a great idea to combine songs & photos.  It's just one more instance where I say, "Why didn't I think of that?!"  Join in on the fun!

Homeward Bound
"I wish I was Homeward Bound" ~ Simon & Garfunkel
Seriously...I wish she was Homeward Bound and not returning to The Big Apple with her fiancĂ©!  We have so much wedding planning to do and time is running out.  She doesn't look happy to be leaving.  Does she??
And now my return to Scavenger Hunt Sunday.  I've been M.I.A. for a few weeks and am a bit rusty.
I took two photos of this guy sunning on the steps of a store.  In the first, both eyes were closed.  He was so disturbed by my presence that he cracked open that one eye to peek at me and didn't move at all....very relaxed!
This amazing mural "Inspiration" in State College, PA by Michael Pilato honors so many people important to the history of The Pennsylvania State University and State College, PA.
"Success without honor is an unseasoned dish; it will satisfy your hunger, but it won't taste good." ~ Joseph Vincent Paterno
Such wonderful college memories from this bar that just happens to have an awesome sign! It's one of those great places where we danced the nights away to oldies.  I may have consumed one or two beers there in my day!
No doubt about it.  My husband is definitely my best friend.
Have a great week!  ~Karen

Random 5 Friday

I've been following Nancy @ A Rural Journal for quite awhile now.  Nancy is so talented AND enviable combination!  Personally, I've been struggling with my motivation to practice my photography so I thought I'd try participating in this meme this week.  Five random facts....hmmmm.  Here goes!

1)   I LOVE yellow....sunshine, roses, lemons.  They all make me smile.  Ironically, I dislike lemonade - but its display makes me smile.

2) I'm so happy that maxi skirts are in style.  Maxis are comfortable, easy to throw on, and are much cooler than pants or even shorts.  Everything old is new again!  I'm just dreading the day that huge, poufy sleeves from the 80's return.

3) This is a public service announcement....Today, July 12th is Cow Appreciation Day.  Show up at a Chick-fil-A fully dressed as a cow and you'll get a free meal. many meals do you think they give away today.  Since I am sharing this info with you, all I ask in return is that if you participate, PLEASE send me a photo!!

4) I am adjusting to a new phase in my life that involves NOT going to work anymore.  The only hard part about it is that I never know what day of the week it is.

5) I always need a good book next to me.  I just finished Khaled Hosseini's And The Mountains Echoed.  It brought me to tears more than once which is NOT easy to do.

Happy Friday!

Scavenger Hunt - June 2, 2013

Thank you Scavenger Hunt for the Photographer's Choice prompts this week!  All five of them!

I just got home from a hot, hectic but wonderful Mother/Daughter Weekend in Washington, D.C.  I spent a very humid Saturday with my youngest daughter and friends seeing some of the many Memorials and Monuments  honoring America's greatest.  It's been years since I've visited our capitol.  While we had a lot of fun, this trip was a reminder of the many people who have gone before us that we need to thank for freedom.

The Price of Freedom
Freedom Wall at the World War II Memorial holds 4048 gold stars.  One for every one hundred American service personnel who died or remain missing in the war.

Scavenger Hunt ~ May 19, 2013

I'm not going to's been a hectic week.  Not a lot of pictures were taken.  The enclosed photos are not very good, but they do chronicle a  fun day watching the Phillies!

Scavenger Hunt ~ May 12, 2013

The other night...while sitting at Happy motivated and talented sister said, "Are you doing Scavenger Hunt this week?"  I heard myself saying, "Do you think you're ever going to stop being so lazy and drag that camera out again??!!"  I woke up Saturday morning and set out to take photos.  Of course, the activity I decided to photograph was cancelled due to rain.  Instead of turning the car around heading home, I went with Plan B and headed to a local bridge that I just love. Thanks for yelling at me Kathy!  Even if it was only in my head :)   It felt good to spend some time with my still unnamed camera.

Local words of wisdom

Happy Mother's Day to all of you Moms out there...but especially to my wonderful mom.  She puts up with a lot of grief....but I blame her.  She's the one who raised three independent women who enjoy expressing their thoughts!  Love you Mom!

Scavenger Hunt - April 21, 2013

Jumping right in to Scavenger Hunt.
This is my happy place....Penn State.  Just saying "Penn State" makes me smile.  This weekend was Blue & White Weekend.  A weekend full of Spring fun....sports, carnival, fireworks (all cancelled due to torrential rain!) - which lead up to the football inter-squad scrimmage.  SNOW should NOT be a part of it!

Spring in B&W
Magnolia from my back yard.

Family or Faith
This photo is both....Family & Faith.  My Father passed away 4 months ago.  A couple of weeks ago, Mom brought down his tool boxes for us to go through in case we needed anything.  The boxes sat right where I put them, unopened.  When I finally popped open this lid, this is what I found....two items that  IMMEDIATELY make me think of my Dad....always have and always will.  A ruler and a level.  To my husband's dismay, I refuse to hang anything without using a level, and can spot differences in measurements as small as 1/16th of an inch.....Daddy's Little Girl :)     This photo is a reminder that Family is with us always, and Faith that Dad is a part of me forever.

Lion paws (Nittany Lion paws!)...they WOULD be fuzzy if they weren't sculptures.

THE place to gather for the best Grilled Stickies in the world.

Here's to hoping that the coming week is a better one than the past one.

Scavenger Hunt ~ April 14, 2013

Yikes....I've been away for awhile!  I just haven't had the motivation.  Nothing around me has looked "photo-worthy".  I have been blaming the weather, the lack of sunshine, anything and everything!  Well...I just returned from a short trip to Arizona with my hubby and the warmth and sunshine boosted my spirits and made me dust off my camera.  It was a busy week...but a fun week!

Old Glory flying above the Arizona State flag

A boy, a ball, and his shadow.  This young man kept himself entertained throughout a double-header...which is no easy task!

Spring in Arizona

This is a sculpture by American artist, Philip Haas, inspired by Giuseppe Arcimboldo's Italian renaissance painting of the Four Seasons.  This is Spring...and he is smiling...because he is Spring!

It feels good to be back! I'm on my way over to Scavenger Hunt to see what you found.

Scavenger Hunt ~ March 17, 2013

Happy St. Patrick's Day one and all!  I liked this week's prompts.  Very straight forward, but I am still expecting to see a variety of photos.

Find a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck!

Pot of Gold
Well...that penny wasn't actually lucky.

Last Saturday was warm and beautiful. THIS is what daylight brought today.  What a difference a week makes.

On last Saturday's outting, I spotted a clover green Caddy.  Glad I thought to snap this photo!  Notice how sunny and bright it is...March is so fickle.

On this St. Patrick's Day I leave you with this:

May your blessings outnumber
The Shamrocks that grow.
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.
